The Centrum

Funded through many Northwest Houston community leaders and the generous support of Cypress Creek Christian Church, the premier performance space for the community became a reality in October 1997.  Northwest Houston community leaders worked for years to see this cultural centerpiece built along Cypresswood Drive in Spring.

The Centrum, located within the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center, is Northwest Harris County’s premier concert venue.  As the primary focal point for educational and artistic events for students, children and adults in Northwest Houston, the Centrum boasts comfortable seating for more than 800 people, with additional flexible seating.  Numerous children’s concerts, orchestra, choirs, worship services, weddings, funerals, and evening concerts ranging from rock to oldies are held each season. UIL school competitions and Directors’ Choice Festivals also take residence in this outstanding facility during the school year.

Under the design team of award-winning architect, Clovis Heimsath and acoustical design consultant Kirkegäärd of Boulder Colorado, the Centrum was intended for live performances.  It features a high wooden ceiling complete with arches that extend from the floor of each corner of the performance space through the highest point in the ceiling.  The wooden stage flooring and tiered, built-in wooden risers provide an excellent venue for organ, voice, or orchestra.  Above the performance space sits the round “Sermon in the Window” stained glass.

After taking on several feet of water during Hurricane Harvey, the facility has been upgraded under the direction of Trilogy Solutions Construction.  New technology includes a premier sound system, large video wall, PTZ cameras, an RGB LED lighting system, building-wide public address system, hearing impaired system, multiple intercoms, and two spotlights.  The lighting system includes an expandable Ion Xe board with 1000 channels and the sound system includes multiple places onstage for wired microphone interface as well as numerous wireless microphones.  Additionally, the Centrum is now equipped with a television system to enable guests to watch events on stage from the lobby or via online conveyance.  Strong, fast broadband internet is also available.

Additionally, a new Green Room has been created backstage along with a catering kitchen including warming oven, double ovens and food preparation area for catered events.
